On Friday, October 19th, the Chagrin Falls Schools will hold an Open House for the entire community to walk through the school district’s new Fitness Center. Located on the 7-12 campus, the facility is connected to the high school gym but has a separate entrance located in the front of the school just past the gymnasium. Community members will have the opportunity to walk through the facility beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Fitness Center will remain open until the end of half time of the varsity football game against Orange that night. If you wish to visit the facility once you have entered the stadium, please exit and re-enter the stadium through the player’s gate located on the visitor’s side of the field. Members of the Physical Education staff will be on hand to answer any questions.
This facility has been financed totally through private donations made to the independent SmartkidsMove organization. This group held community-wide fundraising last year to finance all portions of this project. A major step towards achieving this goal was realized through the generosity of the Leopold family who announced a dollar to dollar $250,000 matching grant to kick off the fund raising campaign. Several Chagrin Falls support groups have also answered the challenge and made donations totaling close to $70,000. Thank you also to all the individuals and families in the district who made contributions.
The new Fitness Center which will serve all students on the 7 – 12 campus is part of the SmartkidsMove initiative of the school district. This initiative emphasizes the lifelong obligation by students that will be necessary for sustained physical and mental health. These goals will be achieved though the implementation of theSmartkidsMove proposal, the first comprehensive K-12 educational program in the United States designed to reform schools while combating childhood obesity and creating smarter, healthier, happier, and more productive individuals for life.
